K+12 Basic Education in Philippines
I am also thinking of solution on how to minimize unemployment in the Philippines. It comes to my mind many years ago to add two years in our basic education just like in other countries in Asia and America.
Among the Asian countries, only the Philippines has 10 years basic education. We can not say that those products of 10 years basic education are non-competitive. However, in the competitive world we need to find alternatives to compete.
Year and year after, the unemployment is increasing while the quality of human resources that we have is like deteriorating. Instead we study, learn and train for the benefit of our country we do it in favor of other countries who paid high to our human resources. Other Asian countries like Thailand, Taiwan and Korean, they study here in our country to be applied in their country whatever they learned from here. In contrast we Filipinos, study, learned and trained our people to apply their knowledge and skills to other countries.
Here comes the additional two (2) years of our basic education, do you think this is the solution of our incompetent to manipulative skills? Though unemployment will be minimize since many teachers will be hired but then parents will clamor for the burden of supporting their children for two more years. Legally, children under 18 years old are still under the custody of their parents. Therefore, if they reach college, they are independent.
Let us be more practical and realistic. We send out our children to work even they still minor. Our parents are violating the child labor law. Some cases, they get pregnant.
Therefore, we need to add two more years, in which to prepare our high school graduates ready for work. They will be trained of skills that they don't need to go to vocational institutions or colleges.
